July Garden Update

July 27, 2022 by Kacey Leave a Comment

The garden is in full swing and I feel every time I visit there are more things to harvest. It’s always a good feeling as my grocery list gets smaller and smaller for what I need from the produce department. Here is the July Garden update.

July Garden Harvest

Planting & Garden Maintenance

As we move through July I continue to weed the garden on a weekly basis, this also includes pruning and trellising the tomatoes and cucumbers. Both are putting on considerable growth and the hot temperatures are really helping with this.

This July has been very dry in Southern Ontario so I’m very thankful for the irrigation system I’ve installed to help keep things growing and not take up my time. If you are interested in more information about drip irrigation, you can check out this post.

Harvesting

More and more things are coming out of the garden this month.

  • kale, lettuce
  • cabbage, kohlrabi
  • peas
  • cilantro, basil, dill
  • beets
  • carrots
  • cucumber
  • shishito peppers
  • fennel
  • garlic
  • zucchini
  • cherry tomatoes
Red Express cabbage

Coming Soon

My tomato plants seem to be a little behind this year, I’m not sure the exact reason but I’m hoping that we see more ripe tomatoes really soon. I can already see that many of the pepper plants will be starting to ripen their fruit. The ground cherry plant also has lots of fruit so I expect some of them to be ready soon too.

This is my first year growing sweet corn. The plants are starting to get really tall and I hope in the next month we’ll get to start harvesting some of the corn to enjoy.

July Garden

I hope you enjoyed this July garden update, I’d love to hear how your garden is growing and what yummy veggies you are harvesting this month. If you are curious about some of the varieties I’m growing this year, you can always check out my post about what I’m growing in 2022 for more details.

Happy Gardening!
